What makes a good coach great? Part 2

Education and experience help make the best personal trainers and coaches.

Do personal trainers have to be in the best shape to be good trainers?

Was high school your art teacher a world-renowned artist?

Is your tax accountant a billionaire?

Do you need to be the best in the world in your field to be great at your job?

No. Often what makes the difference is education AND experience.

Personal trainers on a Monday morning after returning from a 1-day course on breathing mechanics.

Personal trainers that seek education in the areas that help and support their clients are off to a great start. Having the alphabet soup after their name, however, doesn't mean they’ll get you the results you want. Conversely and more specifically to most scenarios, being ripped/shredded/jacked doesn't make a great personal trainer either.

A mixture of education and experience are key ingredients that help make the foundational recipe for a great trainer.

The secret sauce is being able to communicate the what, how, and why of a certain practice to you (the client/trainee) in a way that you value, understand, and that is corollary with your desired goals.

Being smart doesn't make you a good coach. Being shredded doesn't make you a  good trainer. Being a good communicator doesn't make you more valuable than others.

But, being adept and committed to improving the 3 components of education, experience, and communication probably does make you a more impactful coach/trainer overall.
