Are you productively procrastinating?

A large portion of the population is still ordering gym clothes, searching for the most ergonomic Tupperware, comparing the best trainers/gyms, testing out the perfect training shoe, and building out their training schedule but haven't actually done any workouts or meal prep yet.

While being prepared is important, preparation by itself doesn't get results.

Instead, we can prepare enough and then get started with training and meal prepping, and then find out what we like about it/or where it can improve whilst we are doing it. It’s important to remember that all ships take on water. A solid foundational structure stops them from sinking immediately, and a desire to improve and refine helps them plug holes and bail with buckets with little risk of capsizing.

It is impossible to prepare perfectly and the best thing to do right now might be to get started and then refine once you are on your way.

I talk a lot about removing obstacles and lowering friction between us and our intended behaviors, and increasing friction/barriers between us and our unwanted habits. And whilst this is useful it is important to remember that life will never be obstacle-free (as we all know all too well). Taking the approach of having the big pieces in place (workout plan and food prepped for example) is very likely enough for now and then we can refine once we get our ship in the water.

If you need help knowing where to start (building your ship) or are at the point of refinement (bailing water and plugging holes) then I am happy to help.
