Are you using IKEA instructions to assemble your health and fitness?

If you’ve ever attempted to assemble IKEA flat pack furniture, you know it can be, let's say, finicky.

No matter how carefully you follow the sparse instructions, it takes 10x more mental bandwidth than you thought you had, you usually end up missing a step, screwing a piece together, then realizing you’ve forgotten an integral dowel rod, carefully disassembling the corner piece, squeezing the dowel in, double checking the instructions again, and then carrying on.

All the while the barebones instructions and the generic blob character (he's called Frank in my head) smiles at you cheerfully from the manual.

Finally, 6 hours and many new gray hairs later, you step back from your new side table to admire your work. Great stuff.

Then you notice it wobbles a little.

And the handle on the drawer is off center.

There is also a sticker on the drawer base that says “bottom” and you’ve got it on the top.

And for some cruel reason, you have a variety of screws, caps, covers, and tabs left over too.

Bollocks.

“I followed all the instructions! I should have just bought it built or paid someone else to build the fucking thing” you think.

I speak with guys every day who take this same approach to their health, fitness, and physique efforts.

Admirably and with good intentions they go it alone. They join a gym, lace up their shoes, show up, and muddle through the IKEA style instructions they keep in their head with the hopes that they’ll get amazing results.

Same in the kitchen. They know that vegetables are key, that protein is essential, and they need to be careful with their portion sizes. And then they go about their day, hoping to drop 20lbs of body fat with this approach.

Shit! These guys are actually ahead of the curve. Some guys have no instructions at all. Imagine trying to assemble IKEA furniture without Frank The Blob.
