Researching before you commit is a smart move

Do your research before you commit

I’ve played football since I was old enough to stumble around in a onesie. Then COVID put a 2 year hiatus on it.

I want to get back to playing and the guys I played with pre-COVID now play in an over 30s league.

I reached out to see if they had a game coming up and last Sunday, I went and watched them play.

I was looking for a few things;

  • Is the level of competition what I am looking for and are these guys like me?

  • Is it worth my time and effort as I’d be sacrificing weekend time with Jen and Molly to play?

  • Are the guys I'd play with similar to me and would we get along?

  • Are they organized enough to make a team each week (Sunday league football teams often don’t).

  • Do they take it as seriously as I would or would I be left frustrated by the effort of others?

I didn't want to dive in and ask to play and not have my expectations met. So I researched before I committed/invested.

Mismatched expectations are dream killers

I’m telling you this because mismatched expectations are dream killers.

In online health and fitness especially, coaches, programs, and gyms regularly over promise and under deliver.

They don’t set out clear expectations for what it will actually take to make progress for you, the consumer, and often falsely promise easy progress and immediate results.

My advice if you want results is to look for a program that;

  • Is clear about exactly WHO they work with.

  • Is clear about what they DO and DON’T provide (important distinction).

  • Is clear about what YOU need to do to get results in the program.

  • Is clear about what happens before, during, and after your program.

  • Is clear about the sacrifices, investments, and resources it often takes to be successful in the program.

  • Has a proven track record of providing this service and getting these results for others like you.
