Adherence Part 4; Discipline
6 part Adherence series to help busy guys make lasting physique, health, and fitness changes.
Next up is discipline. Discipline is thought of as this tough thing that only Navy Seals and Athletes have when in fact, discipline is something we all have – some of us just try and use it too often and when it runs out, we struggle to adhere.

4. Discipline
When we have powerful internal motivation and a clear plan, discipline is the thing we call on to bring us back up to baseline and keep taking action when we are just having one of those days.
You know the days when your alarm clock goes off and you swear you must have set it wrong because you’ve only been in bed for 8 minutes not 8 hours and the thought of a workout sounds like a scene from a sci-fi movie? That's when we call on discipline. Discipline is a finite resource that helps us do the things we said we would when we don’t feel like it.
That's why internal motivation (to get fit to be a good role model) and a clear plan (workout is 45 mins, has 7 exercises, and 21 total sets) are so important. Without them, you’d have to use more discipline not just to get up, but to think of a workout, and to push yourself to do it even without a compelling reason to do so.
Discipline ensures we keep taking action that aligns with our goals and plan even when we don’t want to.
The good news is, the more times you take action even when you don’t feel like doing so, you build your mental, physical, and emotional strength that you can do hard things, and build a body of evidence that you are the kind of guy that follows through on his word.
That's a great feeling!
Thanks discipline!
