  • It takes repeated exposures of gradually increased stimulus to signal muscle growth and varying lifts too often lowers the intensity of that stimulus, violating the principle of overload for progress.

  • Varying lifts lower the accuracy of the training program, violating the principle of specificity for progress.

  • All training has a skill component and so varying exercises too soon lowers the likelihood of skill development in a particular lift.

  • It’s hard to measure progress if the variables are being changed too often.

  • It tends to be less efficient as you have to learn new techniques and find appropriate sets, reps, and loads for every new lift.

  • It increases inaccuracy as technique deviates and low skill is used it becomes harder to guarantee that we are training the desired/target muscles.

  • It takes longer as every new exercise starts at a lower stimulus as skill and technique are developed, lowering the potential for growth.
