How To Get Jacked With Super-Compensation

Super-compensation is the mechanism by which you make progress in the gym to grow muscle and strength, and in the kitchen to lose body fat and get lean. In order to make progress, we must apply a stimulus/stressor (like lifting weights or creating a calorie deficit). We must give our body something to react to. No stimulus, no progress.
Simple so far.
When we apply a stimulus such as lifting weights or creating a (meaningful and manageable) calorie deficit, we force our body into action. It must now recover from this stimulus in order to adapt to it and be able to perform the same or better next time.
Easy right?
Most men however make a crucial mistake in this process.
They don’t recover.
They think they’re over-training, but they’re actually under-recovering. Notice in the graph below, how initially, training makes us worse.
If you only apply stress without adequate recovery you will get reliably WORSE results despite training hard.
Again, most men aren’t over-training, they’re under-recovering. Poor sleep, inefficient nutrition choices, poorly managed stressors, and alcohol consumption are key issues.
Here’s the scenario I see over and over…
Instead of addressing the recovery bottlenecks, men just keep banging the same bent, blunt, and rusty nail of “more training”.
More stress, less recovery, consistently worse results, repeat a few times, get frustrated with lack of progress, burn out or get injured, lose faith in process, stop trying…wait a few months, see the scale creep up 10lbs more, notice the neck on work shirts fit tighter and tighter, get motivated by shame/frustration, try again, repeat process in downward spiral forever until.
Remember - More isn’t better. Better is better.
